Saturday morning we headed out with Samart to Ayutthaya. I booked a room with Baan Lotus House that was "our pick" on lonely planet.
View from our window...
We pictured a very little town with a ton of wats (temples) and easy to bike around. It turns out it is a pretty big city so we had Samart drive us around in the afternoon to some wats etc.
The Elephant Kraal
We headed over to a little market to eat... With both got chicken fried rice of course!
Wat #1
Wat # 2
Wat # 3
We walked up into the top part (my thighs are still hurting) and there was a stairway leading down to an unknown place.
Creepy and smelly like bat dung... But we went down. One at a time you stand in this strange hole and lookup at this...

Huge Buddha inside...

Look at John with his cute camera strap I found in Alabama!!
Our car- looks like a 4 Runner but the call them Fortuner
Happy hour at the hotel, we have a boat ride around Ayutthaya from 4-6
Tuk-tuk ride to the boat. They crammed 7 of us in there!
Our boat is the one with the orange top, that's our group getting on.

And we are back. A night market has been set up, so we eat and then head to try to see Mao Thai (boxing).
John chicken fried rice
Rebecca (from hotel/ boat) and I got chicken pad Thai.
The night market...
Really gross squat pot, almost barfed afterward.
Tuk-tuk ride to the Mao Thai event...
Turns out it was a ceremony, no fighting.
John and I heard back to the hotel and the off for a couple of drinks and music!
When we hand motioned and asked for the check she brought us a pad and pencil. We need to learn Thai!!
We had a great time, got really hot and sweaty but it was really fun!!
what an adventure...squat pots and all! I can't belive all of the Buddhas! Did anyone speak english? Love these photos!!!! Mom
ReplyDeleteThat was really a great trip. Those elephants look like big babies. You looked very relaxed around them. At least your hotel did not have a squat pot! haha. I don't know how old those temples are but they look very ancient. Thanks for posting all those photos. BT
