Phuket day 2~Hong by Starlight

We were highly recommended to go on the Hong by Starlight tour where we take canoes around to different islands!

We met up and hopped on a large boat and headed to the islands!

lunch on the boat

first hong stop...
Our guide is "Morgan Freeman" really Nick but he looks just like him and that is what they call him!!
These are all the guides ready for us to climb aboard!  They are inflatable canoes...

(love the fun boats around here)

here we go heading through the little cave...
you have to wait until certain times of the day so the water is low enough to enter...

we have to lay down... a little scary

John's knee almost got stuck on this rock...

you come out in a hong or lagoon... the middle of the huge limestone island

these trees have roots that convert salt water into regular water (says Morgan Freeman)

still in the hong...

OK back out of the hong, and head to another cave...

There is our boat!

so weird we just went into a cave and now we are inside it's secret little area...

this one was very shallow inside...

OK back out and now headed to the boat to drive to another area...

Eagles eating the food scraps from our dinner being cooked...

Arrived at the other area...

James Bond Island

into another cave...

backward view...

back out...

Free time on the boat to swim or go canoeing on your own, it also started raining.
Now it is time to make our Kratong and that we set free and make a wish for good luck and prosperity!

We had dinner and then headed to another cave to release the kratong that was lit with candles!
We were able to see plankton glowing in the water when we moved our hand around!  So cool!

BATS!!!  EEEEEEEE!!!!

Time to have our 1 hr ride back to the driver to take us about 1 1/2 more hours to our hotel on the southern part of the island.

pretty sunset!

When we exited the cave their were bats flying above everywhere!!  Pictures would not capture it unfortunately!  It was lightning on the way back to the pier which was cool to watch over the water!
