Wednesday at 8 am Khun Wat picked us up at the Emporium for a fun day in Ayutthaya!!
The van was super nice!!!
First stop Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Our guide showing us the Ayutthaya map and where we are.
There was a flood last year and the water was up to here...
nice van!!
Wat Lokayasutha
Reclining Buddha with a yellow fabric offering.
We learned you need to walk clockwise around the Buddha if not it's bad luck.
The two spade looking markers mean that it is a royal temple.
These are old and worn down slate...
During the war tons of Buddhas and temples were destroyed.
Stop 3 Grand Palace and Wat Phrasi Sanphet
Wat Phrasi Sanphet
Buddha with a missing head with a fabric offering...
haha Steve got suckered into buying this souvenir plate with his picture on it!!
Grand Palace
They wrap these fabric pieces around large trees for the tree spirits...
Mom with her Wednesday (day of the week you were born) Buddha
Steve and I were both born on Thursdays to this is our Buddha
and Dad and John were both born on Saturday
Mom ringing the bell 3 times for good luck
Wat Mahatthat
(what it used to look like)
and now...
Really cool!! Somehow this tree grew around this Buddha head
If you take a picture with Buddha you have to be below his head (if not it is disrespectful)...
I had Steve demonstrate.
still at the same wat, this wall was lined with Buddhas that are missing their heads...
LUNCH TIME!
buffet by the river!!
Then a river boat ride!!!
Back to where we started and now off to ride Elephants!!
The elephant is trying to get the camera!! Or at least have a close up!!
Steve and the cute baby elephant!!
What a wonderful day!! We are ready to book another trip with Tours with Tong and Khun Wat!!!
Now that was a pretty good expedition! Plenty of temples, buddhas, and the elephant ride. The man on the elephant with you and Steve looked like he was falling asleep. :)) Thanks for the post. The photos were great. BT
